Julie Crisan was inspired to paint a colorful mare as a result of conversations with several people recently where they expressed their love for their horses, comparing their personalities to those of dogs.
A mare is an adult female horse or other equine. In most cases, a mare is a female horse over the age of three. The word can also be used for other female equine animals, particularly mules and zebras, though a female donkey is usually called a "jenny." A broodmare is a mare used for breeding.
Mares are considered easier to handle than stallions. Some mare owners claim that mares are more intelligent and courageous and will work harder for their owners, and there are many stories and legends about the loyalty of a mare to her rider.
Julie Crisan was born in Puerto Rico, grew up in New York, lived in Georgia, USA for 20+ years before moving to Portugal in 2021. As an intuitive artist, she nurtures her soul by allowing herself the creative freedom to create art without limits to style, color or subject matter. She especially enjoys painting abstracts and folk art using different material and styles. Stress played a role in Julie Crisan's discovery of her artistic talents. She used her daughter's art supplies to paint, recalling that when she painted one previous time with her it was relaxing and a distraction.
